Tim Hendtlass is a professor in the Centre for Information Technology Research at Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia, where he is coordinator of the Intelligent Systems theme. He obtained his PhD in Ionospheric Physics in 1974,
but has worked in the field of artificial intelligence for over 20 years. His most active research interest is Swarm Intelligence, an area in which he has published extensively. Other research interests are Ant Colony Optimisation, Evolutionary Processes and Advanced Artificial Neural Network Architectures. Tim has supervised more than 20 postgraduate research students in the fields of artificial neural networks, evolutionary systems and, more recently, collective intelligence. He is a member of a number of professional societies, on the editorial board of two journals, and has been a member of the Board of Governors of the International Society of Applied Intelligence for more than 10 years.
